Why it exists
Military mission planning runs on time, fuel, heading, and attention to detail before anyone straps in. Arithmetic and attention to detail are what keep a pilot from running out of fuel, power, and options at the wrong moment.
When you move into a civilian cockpit, the planning tools and the support structure usually don't come with you. The software that did that arithmetic in uniform isn't sitting on the civilian side. Meridian™ puts that planning back in reach: time, distance, and heading, leg by leg, built to run with no outside connection, in the aircraft or out of it.
Charts and moving maps have a home. Detailed mission planning hasn't. Meridian™ fills that void. Not a replacement for your EFB. A different product class.
Who it's for
If you came up planning missions in the military and now fly in civilian aviation, that discipline comes back with you.
The military often spends hours, sometimes days, planning a single mission. Meridian™ compresses that same rigor down, so you get what you need to fly safely in a fraction of the time.
Plenty of pilots planning this way are still on active duty and just want something portable. EFBs are already standard in the cockpit, so carrying one more app isn't a stretch. Meridian™ puts a mission planning computer in your pocket or flight bag. If weather forces a diversion, or you end up spending the night somewhere you didn't plan on, you can replan the flight without needing everything you'd normally have back at the unit.
EFBs are built around charts, weather, and moving maps. Very few build in the mission planning math: back-timing to a required time on target, fuel to a point of no return, and the arithmetic you'd rather not do by hand when you're in a hurry. Meridian™ does that work for you.
If you never trained that way, and you've been figuring time, fuel, and heading by hand, or skipping it when you're in a hurry, Meridian™ does that arithmetic for you.

There's more in the app
Meridian™ also handles time zones, automatic magnetic variation for each leg, and worldwide airport, waypoint, navaid, and terrain data for elevation awareness. There are fuel check timers and stopwatches, time-on-target back-planning, and a pilot-entered emergency altitude reference for IIMC (inadvertent instrument meteorological conditions) contingency planning. Meridian™ doesn't calculate or verify that altitude. You do.
We're not going to list everything here. There's more in the app than this page has room for, and we're still adding to it. A lot has changed and improved since the first build, and there's more coming before this opens up.
Coming next
Weight and balance, and an illumination timing tool, are on the roadmap. They are not in the app yet. We would rather say that plainly than claim them early.
